5th Grade Wiz Has Standout Season With Bluegrass Debate Coalition
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2022) – In a recent article published by UK Now, Bluegrass Debate Coalition (BDC) student, Aaron George, shares his success in debate and discusses his experience with the BDC. Aaron describes how through debate he gained confidence, built new friendships, and received an abundance of awards.
The SCAPA (School for the Creative and Performing Arts) student faced many challenges along the way. Having experienced loneliness from online schooling, debate became an outlet – to have fun and connect with others. Without the BDC, Aaron would not be able to participate in debate. Though SCAPA has a Speech and Debate club, they only allow students in middle and high school to participate. The Bluegrass Debate Coalition opened up new opportunities for Aaron.
Despite these challenges, Aaron has experienced immense success. In Aaron’s first debate competition, he and his partner placed first at the BDC’s All Hallow’s Eve event. This event prompted a series of debate wins including second at the Wilson Wyatt Debate League Invitational, first at the BDC’s Fall Classic, second place at the BDC New Year’s Resolution contest, and more.
