Assumption High School Sweeps Kentucky Case Competition

Lexington, KY – This past week, the Bluegrass Debate Coalition hosted the first-ever Kentucky Case Competition. Debate students from across the country were invited to submit videos of them performing their opening arguments. Students researched and wrote original speeches on the February Public Forum Debate Topic, “Resolved: On balance, the benefits of urbanization in West Africa outweigh the harms.” The monthly topics are set by the National Speech & Debate Association.

The PF team of Mary-Claire Schmidt and Anna Alphin from Assumption High School in Louisville won both the Pro and Con divisions, with their speeches being named the Best Pro Case and Best Con Case. Congratulations to Mary-Claire, Anna, and coach Elizabeth Bender.
